Landmark buildings across Brighton & Hove are sporting belly button rings, drop earrings and spikes as the City gets its buildings pierced as part of its bid to be European Capital of Culture 2008.
Fabrica (pictured), an art gallery in a former church, will have an 11-metre spike through its tower, 50 feet above the ground; and the Town Hall, Brighton Museum, and the offices of accountancy firm Baker Tilly will all be wearing body jewellery, created by Tarmount Community Artists to draw attention to Brighton & Hove?s commitment to the cutting edge of British culture. The City?s bid for the 2008 title is being showcased by a year-long programme which includes a £12m ticket giveaway called ?Try it for the First Time?, to encourage residents to seek new cultural experiences.
