Michelle McMahon reveals the sites she can’t do without

Michelle McMahon

www.omgimgettingmarried.com
OMG I'm getting married! Not a declaration, I hasten to add, but a beautiful online celebratory space of all things related to ‘the big day’. The brain child of digital designer Alexis Cuddyre, this site is home to preparatory inspirations and personal stories in equal measure. Getting married or being part of someone’s wedding is a rare exhilaration. It is a rare thing to evoke this same emotion in a browsing experience.

www.ted.com
'Ideas Worth Spreading' is this site’s tagline. To me, it is far more than a website. It’s the reason for my knowledge of more topics than I care to admit to. The organisation hosts a global set of conferences where speakers are given a maximum of 18 minutes to present their ideas in the most innovative and engaging ways they can. Diving into the online collection of “fascinating, jaw dropping, funny, informative, beautiful and courageous” speeches (TED’s classification system, not mine) is a certain way to raise conversational dexterity in any area of expertise. My recent favourite is Ben Cameron’s talk on the professional hybrid artist.

www.notcot.com
A friend recently sent me in this direction. A space for “your ideas, aesthetic and amusement”, it’s obvious that the creators are passionate about differentiating each experience you have on the site. Their gift guide is a veritable style spread of desirable objects themed and personalised.

A visit here gives me a grown up version of that joy I found in toy catalogues as a child and, as an upshot, often sows a seed or three of creativity in my mind.

www.twitter.com
Ending without hesitation, this is the site I am slave to more than any other. In this age of online curation, I believe my twitter account best represents the myriad of me, my work and loves. It allows you to  embrace or reject classification and simply filter, fetch and find all that matters to you.

Michelle McMahon is a theatre professional.
