The regeneration of a 420 acre site to the east of Birmingham?s city centre is to become a new hub for the UK?s creative industries through a 10-year renaissance programme which will include a cluster of arts, media, publishing, design and other creative businesses.
Birmingham?s Central library will be relocated to the area, along with Birmingham Conservatoire, and proposals are being developed to create a new centrepiece for the area called the Birmingham Needle. This will house performance space, accommodation for creative businesses and showcase and exhibition space for a range of new media and creative arts. Up to £8m in funding is expected to be available to assist companies to develop, expand and relocate to Eastside. A consultation exercise is to begin with representatives from the creative industries sector, to inform and share the strategy for Eastside with those who will benefit from it. w: http://www.east-side.co.uk/creativeindvision
