Laurie Hayward (pictured), formerly Director of the Media Development Agency for the West Midlands and of the Central England Screen Commission, is to be the first Chief Executive of Screen East, the Film council?s new regional agency based in Norwich.

Kent County Council has appointed Victoria Pomery as Director of the Turner Centre, the new regional centre for the visual arts, to be built in Margate. She has been Senior Curator at Tate Liverpool since 1997, and prior to that was Exhibitions Officer at Angel Row Gallery in Nottingham.

Anita Crowe has left the Gabrieli Consort and Players to work for the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic as its Director of Artistic Planning. She will be succeeded by Ole Baekhoej, a Danish musician and manager.

Welsh National Opera has appointed 24 year old Russian conductor Tugan Sokhiev as its new Music Director. He takes up his post on 1 January 2003, but will conduct a series of concerts with WNO in January and February 2002.

Emma Dowden formerly Administrator for Pop-up Theatre, has joined Sadler?s Wells as Performance and Visual Arts Co-ordinator.

Fern Potter has taken over as Development Manager of George Piper Dances (aka Ballet Boyz). She was previously Joint Co-ordinator for the London String of Pearls Millennium Festival.

The London Sinfonietta has reorganised its Marketing Department to focus on its strategy for the delivery of contemporary music using new technology. Nick Reyland becomes Web and Publications Officer, and Alison Atkinson has been appointed as Marketing and IT Product Development Manager. Claire Willis, previously Graduate Trainee, has been appointed Assistant Concerts Administrator, and is replaced as Graduate Trainee by Tom Walton.

Sarah Boak has been appointed as Network Officer, Yorkshire and the Humber for Voluntary Arts England, based in Leeds.

St Helens Cultural Partnership has appointed Sean Durney as Arts Support Officer, replacing Jo Broad who is now at East England Arts. Sean worked previously for Arts & Business North West.

The new Director at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts is Simon Daykin, formerly Chief Executive of Midlands Arts Marketing He will replace David Hill, who now runs his own consultancy.

Cardiff 2008, the company formed to manage the city?s bid to become European Capital of Culture 2008, has appointed Yvette Vaughan Jones as Director of European and Community Programmes and Judi Richards as Director of Programme Development.

Spitalfields Festival has changed its staffing structure, with Fiona Lambert now as Education Administrator, Alice Wainwright as Concerts & Marketing Administrator and Kate Hopkins joining as Festival Assistant.

Jonathan Cochrane is the new Theatre and Arts Development Manager for Redditch Borough Council. He worked formerly for Birmingham City Council?s Youth Service.
