Arts Council England has confirmed that it is to drop the controversial 12-month funding clause, which disallowed funding to projects that could not be completed within a year. In a turnaround to the recently announced policy (see AP issue 143, 9 April), a spokesperson for ACE said that they had looked again at the proposals, after listening to concerns from the arts community over the practicality of the measures.
The decision to drop the 12-month requirement, means that ACE will continue to consider funding multi-year projects. ACE Chief Executive Peter Hewitt also confirmed that there is leeway on the current funding ceilings of £200,000 for national activity grants, and £100,000 for organisations. In a letter to arts organisations, he said that consideration over the current caps, could be given in a very small number of truly exceptional cases.
