A new package of funding and activity is being made available to help music educators deliver the Governments Music Manifesto. Announced by Schools Minister, Andrew Adonis, and Culture Minister, David Lammy, the package includes £2m to fund professional development for music teachers.
The Open University and Trinity College London are creating a training programme to support the development of staff involved in teaching music in primary schools, and more than 2,000 teachers are expected to benefit from the initiative which will start in the spring 2007. Funding is also allocated to the State of Play Festival, a two-day conference due to take place in January next year, which will bring together representatives from the music industry, arts, education and health to explore music education issues.
