In the wake of the withdrawal of funding to Talawa Theatre Company
for the establishment of a dedicated home for Black theatre in Westminster, Arts Council England has commissioned Professor Lola Young, author of the Mayor of London?s Cultural Strategy, to undertake a strategic review of the needs of Black theatre in Britain. ACE has committed to spending the £4m originally allocated to Talawa to serving Black theatre?s capital needs nationally.

The Place has opened applications to the self-managed artist scheme, which is designed to pair dance managers with independent choreographers offering mentoring, and to assist them with learning about administration.

The Big Lottery Fund has made an additional £100m available to support applications from voluntary and community groups, after receiving an unusually high number of applications in the last funding round. Full details of the Big Lottery Fund?s new programmes will be announced later this autumn.

Two hundred and fifty delegates from 22 European countries will participate in a conference aimed at developing ways of nurturing emerging European performing artists. The Trans Europe Halles meeting will be held at The Junction in Cambridge from 22 to 25 September.

Projects designed to engage young people with biomedical science and its impact on society are invited to apply to Pulse, a grants scheme from the Wellcome Trust. Grants of up to £50,000 will be considered. The deadline is 7 October.
