A £1m fund for the commissioning, creation, development and presentation of ambitious new work has opened for applications in Scotland.
Agreed as part of the Scottish Arts Council?s annual budget in January, this new fund gives priority to new work by Scottish-based artists or to new work which will directly benefit Scottish audiences. Professional arts organisations and collaborations involving individual artists are eligible to apply for project funding of between £25,000 and £250,000.The aim of the fund is to create entirely new work, or work which is new to Scotland, which can also be accompanied by an appropriate programme of education, interpretation or audience development. The fund applies across all artforms, and examples given for suitable projects include those involving the commission, acquisition and production of new work in music, drama, opera, music theatre, live art and dance and the commission and publication by a publisher based in Scotland of many forms of creative writing. Deadlines for applications are September 2 for decisions by late November and December 2 for decisions in mid-March 2003.
