Arts & Business Scotland has recognised the work of boards in its 20th Anniversary Awards, with a newly added category of Arts Chair of the Year, sponsored by the Institute of Directors Scotland. In a ceremony held at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre, Zoë van Zwanenberg, Chair of YDance and Scottish Ballet, was recognised for her outstanding leadership and commitment as Chair of YDance for five years, where she has guided the company from a small organisation with three staff into a national operation with 21 staff working across Scotland.
She became Chair of Scottish Ballet in 2004. The award for business Volunteer of the Year, sponsored by Standard Life, went to Graham Rowan, a senior manager at Prudential, who joined the board of Cumbernauld Theatre and assisted in its development of a strategy for sustainable growth at a time of uncertainty.
