Carriages on Arriva trains from Birmingham to Aberystwyth have been transformed into art classes (pictured) in a project designed to encourage children to use drawing and storytelling to examine contrasting lifestyles. The ?Travel Arts Project?, managed by Aberystwyth Arts Centre, saw primary school children from an inner-city school in Birmingham travel to Aberystwyth whilst producing artwork to map their journey.

The children then stayed in the area to sample the life of their Welsh counterparts. In co-ordination with mac, the project was then mirrored in Birmingham. Further exchanges are planned later this year, and work by the project participants and the artist who initiated the exchange, Catrin Webster, will be on display at Aberystwyth Arts Centre and in mac?s gallery in 2006.
