The arts should embrace new research showing theatre audiences synchronise heartbeats – the effects are proven to be good for your health and your love life, writes Richard Morrison.

Going to the theatre can boost your love life. That’s an eye-catching claim, even if it comes out of research sponsored by the ticket agency Encore, which obviously has more than a passing interest in the matter. The actual research, however, was led by a scientist with impeccable credentials: the experimental psychologist Joseph Devlin, from University College London.
