Simon Stephens has dark brown hair and a beard. He is wearing a navy cotton shirt with a yellow top underneath. He is smiling at the camera. There is a brick wall behind him.

Theatre by the Lake (TBTL) has announced SIMON STEPHENS as its new Executive Director.

He will work alongside Artistic Director LIZ STEVENSON, appointed in 2019, in a joint leadership role.

Stephen’s appointment will begin mid-March as he steps down from his current role as Head of Commercial and Visitor Experience at Manchester's Contact, which saw him lead on the theatre's re-opening campaign following a redevelopment project.

At TBTL, he will be responsible for developing the theatre’s business strategy, including the development of partnerships locally and nationally.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Theatre by the Lake and making this beautiful region a home for my family,” Stephens commented.

He added he is relishing the opportunity to work with Stevenson and the team in “furthering the commitment to championing Cumbrian voices, producing outstanding work and embedding the theatre as a welcoming, vibrant hub at the heart of the Keswick community”.

Stevenson said: “I am thrilled that Simon is joining us at this moment – his passion, drive and experience will help us to secure the theatre’s future as a vital centre of creativity for Cumbria and a producing theatre whose work is celebrated on the national stage.”
