GBOLAHAN OBISESAN is stepping down from his role of Artistic Director and joint CEO at Brixton House with immediate effect.

Formerly known as Ovalhouse Theatre, Obisesan joined the organisation ahead of its relaunch and move to Brixton in 2020. Brixton House said Obisesan has left the role to pursue other creative opportunities.

Prior to being appointed to Brixton House, Obisesan was an Associate Director at the Young Vic in London and the Royal Shakespeare Company.

As a writer, his short play Zaida and Aadam was staged at the Bush Theatre. He also wrote Re:Exhibit for Offstage Theatre and Walking the Tightrope for Theatre Uncut season which performed at the House of Commons.

Chair of Brixton House DAVID BRYAN said Obisesan has made a “distinctive contribution” to the artistic identity of Brixton House.

Obisesan added: “I am pleased to have been part of bringing this new space to life. My thanks go to the Brixton House team and the communities of Brixton for embracing me and all the building has to offer and I look forward to returning as it thrives.”
