Director of Unlimited Jo Verrent addresses the difficulties facing cultural sector leaders in a very personal open letter to 'work'.

Dear Work.

We need to talk. To be honest, we’ve needed to talk for a while, but I’ve been so busy with, well, you. You’ve become very demanding of late. Ohh Work. I used to wake up excited to do the fun things that came with you. Changing the world. Getting stuff done. Watching, making, breathing art!

Now, not so much. Now there’s less fun and more stress. More paperwork and less things going smoothly the first-time round. More plan B’s, C’s, D’s etc. 

I wake each day and say to myself ‘who do I need to disappoint today?’ I just can’t do everything you demand of me. Is it me? Is it you? Is it both of us?

I know I’ve changed. I’m older. I have more access requirements. I have less energy. Is it that? Surely I’ve gained wisdom and experience to offset this? Is it that my job is now more senior and has more responsibility?
