AMBER MASSIE-BLOMFIELD will step down as Executive Director of Complicité after three years at the helm.

Massie-Blomfield co-led the international touring theatre company with Artistic Director SIMON MCBURNEY and will depart in spring 2024 to take on "freelance ventures".

During her tenure, Massie-Blomfield oversaw the company's successful bid for ongoing Arts Council England funding as an NPO in the current round.

She also headed the organisation's education and engagement programme, partnering with different communities including Rebel Voices, a creative group for older women exploring themes of invisibility and rebellion and Grief Chorus, sharing rituals of mourning across cultures in the wake of the pandemic.

Massie-Blomfield's interest in environmentalism has seen her chair the working group responsible for Theatre Green Book's international touring guidance and introduce a 'climate leave' programme for Complicité staff.

Speaking about her time at Complicité, Massie-Blomfield said it had been "one of the privileges" of her life.

"As I move into freelance life, I’m looking forward to exploring new opportunities that allow me to centre my commitment to taking action on the climate and ecological emergency.”

McBurney said Massie-Blomfield had guided the company with "energy, creativity and care".

"With her multi-disciplinary talents, as Executive Director, she has overseen the development of major new projects in very different forms - radio, film, education, theatre and dance - as well as fostering an inclusive and nurturing space for us all."

Chair TOM MORRIS commented: "Amber is rare in combining the public intellectual role manifest in her books with powerful skills in organisational leadership.

"All at the company express our sincere thanks to her for all she has done in the last three years and look forward eagerly to the extraordinary things she will achieve in the future.”
