MATHEW SWANN has been appointed the new Director of the BBC Concert Orchestra.

Swann was Chief Executive of City of London Sinfonia from 2012 until 2021 and has worked with Orchestras Live (OL) for over a decade as a partner and lately as a trustee. He has co-authored two reports on Orchestras in Healthcare for OL, the most recent of which was published in February 2024.

A classical music producer and curator, he is also a Co-Founder of Your Turn Collective and Director of Recruitment and Organisational Change at Achates.

SIMON WEBB, Head of Orchestras and Choirs at the BBC, said, “I am delighted to be welcoming Matthew to the BBC Orchestras and Choirs team.

"Matthew’s record of both delivering high-quality orchestral programmes and being committed to music outreach and education make him a perfect fit for the BBC Concert Orchestra, especially at this time when the orchestra is thriving.”

Swann added that he was “thrilled” to join the BBC Concert Orchestra “at such an exciting time”.
