The first University College London (UCL) Arts in Health Awards were presented on September 14 as part of UCL?s annual Medical Humanities Conference.

Designed to draw the attention of artists, policymakers, healthcare providers and the public to the role the arts can play in health and well-being, the inaugural awards recognised the work of four visual artists in the field. Wendy Teall?s ?Crowning Glories? (pictured), an exhibition of hats which employ cactus imagery to challenge public perceptions of mental health, was one of the £1,000 winners in the Professional Category. The awards are set to become an annual event with additional categories being added next year.
