Three and a half years

What does NYO do?
We provide orchestral education for musically talented young people aged 13?19 years. During three annual residential courses, members are tutored by leading professionals from the music world. The courses culminate in concerts in professional settings with internationally renowned conductors.

What does your job involve?
I look after the Friends of NYO and Alumni, and I am am responsible for maximising donations through Gift Aid, legacies and other tax-efficient processes.

Who did you previously work for?
I worked for English Touring Opera from 1997?2000 as Development Co-ordinator and prior to that I worked in the commercial sector with companies such as Eastern Group plc and Pearson plc.

What do you enjoy most about your present post?
Harnessing my creativity into practical schemes that will, of course, bring in lots of money!

What do you find most difficult in your present post?
As in most arts organisations, I find the administrative burden a real task. Also, as I work from home I have to deal with all the mundane tasks myself!

What is your career ambition?
Early on in my working life I determined always to work for an organisation whose aims I really believe in and am inspired by. I find that?s essential when fundraising.

Who has influenced your career to date the most?
Marjorie Scardino, Chief Executive of Pearson plc was a huge influence on me. When she joined the company you could literally feel the positive winds of change. She breathed new life into it and gave me the courage to change direction work-wise.

If you could have done any job, what would it be?
I would have loved to have won an Oscar ? I?ve got a great speech ready?
