The National Campaign for the Arts (NCA) is developing a cultural manifesto to be used as a lobbying tool in the build up to the next General Election, and to represent the views of the arts constituency at local government level. The purpose of the manifesto is to provide a channel of communication between those working and participating in the arts to those dictating policy and funding.
Reflecting the themes emerging from the NCA?s recent conference, the manifesto will attempt to move debate about the arts beyond the arguments about instrumental benefits and intrinsic value, and will include reference to issues such as the provision of arts for children, the engagement of communities in the arts and the role of the voluntary arts sector. Consultation with NCA members and the wider arts constituency is continuing, and will culminate in a final document that will be distributed to all political parties ahead of their annual conferences in the autumn. It will be available on the NCA website at http://www.artscampaign.org.uk
