The Scottish Arts Council (SAC) has declared that efforts to establish a Public Arts Development Agency (PADA) are ongoing despite the closure of the Scottish Sculpture Trust (SST) which was, together with Glasgow School of Art, overseeing the establishment of the new agency.
The closure has been blamed on delays in establishing the new body. The Trustees of SST issued a strongly worded statement saying ?SAC has acted in an incompetent and irresponsible manner towards the Trust, the Glasgow School of Art, and the arts community in Scotland by not demonstrating any firm intention of establishing the PADA.? Jim Tough, Head of Arts Development at the Scottish Arts Council, says: ?We recognise that trustees of the Scottish Sculpture Trust were very disappointed at having to close the Trust. It is not true to say that no progress has been made. We are currently working with the Glasgow School of Art to help achieve the original vision of PADA.?
