News ? Open House
The Royal Opera House has launched a nationwide collaborative access and audience development initiative, known as Open House, through which live performances will be simultaneously broadcast from Covent Garden to big screens across the country.
Over the past three seasons, sponsorship by BP has enabled performances to be relayed into the Covent Garden Piazza and other spaces in London, entertaining over 32,000 people. Their continued sponsorship this summer will see The Royal Ballet production of Manon relayed to Sheffield and Liverpool, and The Royal Opera?s productions of Die Zauberflöte to Canary Wharf, and Pagliacci to Gateshead and Belfast. Open House also marks the launch of a complementary access initiative funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation. The project offers over 6,500 subsidised tickets to new audiences for performances of The Royal Ballet?s Romeo and Juliet and The Royal Opera?s Madama Butterfly in the autumn, as well as a programme of education-led activities and events.
