Two arts institutions accepted a lower proportion of students from a state school background than Oxford or Cambridge last year.

Museums and galleries are urged to regularly extend opening hours and put on after-hours events, which are estimated to be worth an annual £9.6m in ticket sales.

The Museums Association’s annual survey finds 4% of the workforce are non-UK EU citizens.

Board members have resigned following outrage at the funder’s decision to end support for a number of arts organisations that work with children and disabled people. 

Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Pilot Theatre are among the organisations awarded grants of up to £20k to develop “riskier, content-driven projects”.

Arts Development UK will wind down in April after attempts to increase membership were unsuccessful, but services may be taken up by other bodies.

CC Skills Chief Executive Pauline Tambling has warned arts subjects in schools are becoming irrelevant and arts-led education work needs to be more job-focused.
