A new cross-disciplinary cultural centre dedicated to raising awareness of climate change is to open in Liverpool on 21 January with two photography exhibitions. Caroline Cardus has won the Adam Reynolds Memorial Bursary, which was set up in memory of sculptor Adam Reynolds. The bursary is awarded annually to a disabled artist to provide time, space and support for an artist to work without pressure to deliver a particular outcome. A pop-up gallery has appeared in one of the London Eye’s capsules, showing specially commissioned works by British artist Kate Jenkins.  An estimated £14.6m worth of contemporary art has been bought through 88,000 ‘Own Art’ loans since 2004. More than 250 galleries currently participate in the Arts Council England scheme, which offers customers an interest-free loan of up to £2,000 (to be paid back over 10 months) to buy a work of art by a living artist. The Jerwood Charitable Foundation has launched a new Painting Fellowship (replacing the Jerwood Painting Prize), for “outstanding artists in the first five years of their professional practice”. A planning application has been submitted for Doncaster’s new £22m performance arts space, which has yet to be named. A new report from Audiences Northern Ireland has revealed that the arts contributed more than £16m to the economy in Northern Ireland in 2009, up 11% on the previous year. The Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham has been awarded a grant of £500,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to restore the theatre auditorium. The theatre, which celebrates its 120th birthday next year, will close for 17 weeks in order for the work to be carried out.
