Caroline Cardus has won the Adam Reynolds Memorial Bursary, which was set up in memory of sculptor Adam Reynolds. The bursary is awarded annually to a disabled artist to provide time, space and support for an artist to work without pressure to deliver a particular outcome. Cardus receives £5,000 and a three-month residency at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead.

Barnet Borough Council has proposed stopping all core financial support for artsdepot, the leading arts venue in its area, from April next year. The venue had been given no prior warning of the proposal which leaves it in a vulnerable position. It has asked supporters to sign a petition.

Now in its twelfth year, the Charity Awards 2011 have been launched. All charities, irrespective of size and based anywhere in the UK are eligible to apply. Sponsored by the Charities Aid Foundation and the Leadership Trust, each winner will receive a place on a residential Leadership in Management course. The closing date for entries is 11 March 2011.

A consultation on standards for dance leadership has been launched by Creative and Cultural Skills (CCSkills). CCSkills is asking for comments from the sector on its proposals for National Occupational Standards for Dance Leadership. The Foundation for Community Dance, working on behalf of Dance Training and Accreditation, has collaborated with CCSkills on the project. The deadline for responses is 20 December.

A global database of cultural policies is being developed by the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies (IFACCA). The aim is for the database to be used as a tool for policy-makers, academia and other interested parties. The final version will be web-based and include profiles of individual countries with a facility to track and analyse changes in cultural policies around the world. A draft version is planned for launch next October.

The University of Wales has decided to close its sculpture department. The Cardiff School of Art & Design, one of five schools at the university, is being reduced in size and scope due to the Welsh Assembly Government reduction in the education budget.
The traditional arts sector has received a £250,000 grant from Creative Scotland. Culture Minister Fiona Hyslop announced the funding as she responded to the report from the Traditional Arts Working Group (AP211). Creative Scotland will distribute money for apprenticeship schemes, promotion of the traditional arts with other public sector partners and work with schools.
