Margate’s Turner Contemporary gallery, one of the largest spaces for art outside London, will open to the public in April 2011. The development of Turner Contemporary is at the forefront of plans to revitalise one of Britain’s oldest seaside resorts.  Arts Quarter (AQ) has launched the second phase of its Hidden Wealth Research Project, which works with arts organisations to allow them to explore high-net-worth individual giving. Twenty-two organisations took part in Phase 1, the findings of which can be downloaded from AQ’s website. Arts organisations with an audience database containing individual data with address information are now being invited to take part in Phase 2 and explore their viability to engage effectively with high-net-worth individuals as potential donors. Participation is free of charge.

MTW and WNO have been acting as mentors for students from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and Cardiff University to make an aria based on Franz Kafka’s short story, ‘In the Penal Colony’.

The Bush Theatre has found a new home in the old Shepherd’s Bush Library building. The new venue will be accessible to wheelchairs, which the Bush’s current building is not. There will be places for playwrights to write, read and be in residence, and a small library of playtexts. The theatre has struck a deal with Hammersmith and Fulham Council which gives the Bush a 125-year lease with virtually no rent. The theatre is now fundraising to refurbish and refit its new home, which it hopes to open in 2011.
