Hundreds of people attending a gig at London’s O2 Arena were denied entry because they didn’t have photo identification, with fans claiming they weren’t warned about the restriction. Ticket site Stubhub, the O2’s official partner, deemed the policy “unfair” and offered all affected ticket holders a refund.

Leicester City Council is investing an extra £600k in the £3m refurbishment of the Haymarket Theatre so it can become the showcase venue for ESL UK, which hosts major online gaming tournaments. The events, which will be broadcast live around the world, are expected to generate hundreds of thousands of pounds for the theatre.

The theatre’s 500-seat auditorium will be extended by around 50 seats, its front-of-house and backstage facilities overhauled and a new learning and participation centre will be created. The refurb, supported by Arts Council England and Essex County Council, will make the theatre completely accessible.

An estimated £300m is available for the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to distribute this financial year – down from £385m in 2015/16, owing to falling National Lottery sales. HLF said demand for funding has “never been higher” and warned of possible changes, including caps on major grants, increased match-funding requirements, and using funds for low-interest loans instead of grants.

Talent agency Simon and How has entered into a partnership with theatre company Access All Areas, which currently trains 15 learning-disabled actors a year at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, to become the “go-to agency” for actors with learning disabilities.

Over 500 people, including artists Sonia Boyce and Conrad Atkinson, have added their names to a letter in support of arts organisation Locus+, which will lose its National Portfolio funding from 2018. The letter calls on Arts Council England to provide clarity on the decision and offer “positive guidance” regarding the future of the Locus+ archive.

The Artistic Director Leadership Programme, aimed at developing future theatre leaders from diverse backgrounds, will provide residencies for trainee artistic directors with theatre companies across the UK. A second strand of the programme, the Leaders of Tomorrow scheme, is aimed at artists who may one day want to lead a building-based organisation.
