New music compositions that draw on the choral tradition and history of the city of Cambridge will accompany the start of Stage 3 of the Tour de France on 7 July. Local choirs, schools, artists and members of the local community will be developing and performing a cycle of songs, supported by some of the city’s leading composers and musicians, and an app will be created to enable people to hear the music and the stories that inspire it along the route. Pilot Theatre and Historyworks are working together to produce the work. The Cambridge stage of the Tour de France is one of only three stages of the race being held in the UK. The start and the second stage will be in Yorkshire, and these are being celebrated through a 100-day cultural festival.
