A survey of 1,200 schools by the BBC found four in ten secondary schools are spending less on facilities, three in ten are reducing arts lesson time, and some are increasing reliance on voluntary donations from parents to fund provision.

£4m a year in lottery funding has been allocated to the Film Audience Network until 2022, and boundaries have been redrawn to align with Arts Council England’s regions. Some funding decisions and talent scouting have been devolved to lead organisations in the network, including HOME in Manchester and Bristol’s Watershed.

43% of theatre workers who responded to a survey run by The Stage said they had experienced workplace bullying and 31% had been subject to sexual harassment. Creatives, performers and backstage workers, and workers with disabilities, were found to be particularly vulnerable to unfair treatment. Theatre Royal Margate has re-appeared in the Theatres Trust list of ‘most at-risk buildings’ as it awaits money to be found for essential capital works. Brighton Hippodrome tops the list, as plans for the future of the building - bought by a private investor last year – have yet to be made public.

A new “adventure theatre”, specially built for under-sixes, is included in the £6.5m redevelopment plans, which have been supported by Arts Council England. Work is expected to begin in February 2019.
