Burnley Empire Theatre, the only purpose-built Victorian theatre in East Lancashire, and which has been on the Theatres Trust Theatres at Risk register since 2006, has been bought by Burnley Empire Limited – a friends group backed by the National Trust and the Theatres Trust.

Research by ComRes found that 69% of people who had attended a live ticketed event in the past year agree measures should be put in place to stop people taking pictures and videos during performances. But more than a third also said recording on their phone is an important part of the live experience.

The arts centre has submitted plans to Bristol City Council for a £12m revamp of “dead space” behind its building, which would create new work space for over 100 creatives, and add four storeys onto the current structure. It is expected the project would take four years to complete.

One in five of the 3,000 respondents to research by recruitment firm The Mandy Network had not been paid in the entertainment industry over the past six months. Half took on unpaid work every year and 63% earned less than £5k from acting jobs in the past year.

As part of the £700m Tay Cities Region deal, agreed between the Scottish and UK Governments, Pitlochry Festival Theatre has been awarded £10m towards its £25m redevelopment. The project will include installing a fly tower in the main house and creating a second performance space.
