A Government consultation is seeking to formalise the details of a proposed corporation tax relief for theatre productions, announced in last week’s budget. The relief will support plays, musicals, opera, ballet and dance, at a rate of 25% for touring productions and 20% for other productions. Views on issues such as how ‘touring’ and ‘theatre’ are defined, and what costs should be eligible for relief  are invited from individuals, companies and professional bodies working in the performing arts sector. The consultation will close on 8 May and the relief will be available from September 2014.
