man on a stage

A maze of sound, a new approach to captioning theatre for deaf audiences and a two-week adventure game spread over a city are among the inaugural ‘Theatre Sandbox’ commissions, launched by Bristol’s iShed. Theatre Sandbox is billed as an opportunity for arts companies to partner with theatre venues to research and develop new ideas that use new technology – be it sensors or wireless networks – to create film, music, visual arts or gaming projects. It is the first scheme of its kind in the UK theatre sector, and will see each of the six successful tech-friendly arts companies (selected from over 100 applicants) receive £10,000 to develop their work at one of the following partner venues: Bristol Old Vic, mac in Birmingham, Contact in Manchester, The Junction in Cambridge, or Soho Theatre or the Lyric Theatre in London.
