Regional differences not as significant as other variables in measuring arts attendance

People in Northern Ireland are less likely to engage in non-performance related arts such as knitting, drawing, photography or sculpture, than people living in the rest of the UK says a new report  comparing Northern Irish cultural activity to that of Scotland, Wales and England. Commissioned by the Department of Culture and Leisure, it also reveals that the Welsh and Northern Irish are less likely to attend cultural events than the rest of the UK. However, factors such as gender, education and volunteerism were found to have a bigger impact on arts participation than any regional variations.
