The difficulty of keeping arts graduates in the areas in which they trained, and of communicating the transferable nature of skills gained in the visual arts to employers, are both key issues facing arts higher education says a new report commissioned by a-n the artist information company. Prepared by Sarah Rowles, Director of Q-Art, ‘The Lay of the Land: current approaches to professional practice in visual and applied arts BA courses’   provides a snapshot of Higher Education in the visual arts by revealing the thoughts  of teachers and students. It examines issues such as embedding professional practice within courses, how work is assessed, and lecturers’ attitudes towards teaching career-related skills.
