The Treasury has said that concerns over arts funding in the run-up to the Comprehensive Spending Review should be directed to the Culture Secretary, James Purnell. In a letter to the National Campaign for the Arts (NCA), Treasury Chief Secretary, Andy Burnham, said that it was not their role to determine funding levels for the sector.
Responding to a joint letter sent by Equity, Bectu, Musicians Union, Theatrical Management Association, Dance UK, NCA and Independent Theatre Council, Burnham wrote, I& emphasise that it will be for the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport to decide the level of funding for his departments sponsored bodies, including Arts Council England.
