Radical government changes to the departments for education and culture are set to impact on the work of Creative Partnerships. The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) has been split into two separate departments: the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), and the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS), with Ed Balls appointed as Secretary of State for the DCSF and John Denham for the DIUS.
Paul Collard, National Director of Creative Partnerships struck a positive note when he said, I like the combined focus on children, schools and families. This allows a more rounded approach to young peoples creativity, which suits Creative Partnerships, as evidenced by the Ofsted report which particularly commended CPs impact on all five Every Child Matters outcomes. Of course Creative Partnerships contributes to improvements in attainment, but its wider impacts are of as great importance. The new structure could therefore provide a platform for a deeper engagement with the new Department.
