Partnerships with theatres could be the lifelines that libraries need, says policy report.

A Policy Review document setting out Labour’s views on the importance and potential of libraries to communities is advocating a strategy of 'co-location' to ensure that libraries work more closely with  local theatres, community services and leisure centres. The document, ‘Libraries: Innovation, Co-location and Partnership’  emphasises the value of libraries and considers ways to develop the library agenda at a time of economic austerity. Innovative partnerships with community groups, charities and businesses are seen as essential for driving up standards and increase user-ship, including the shared use of spaces, such as the central Birmingham library development involving Birmingham Rep  . Shadow Culture Minister Dan Jarvis said: “Our communities will be best served by an effective, innovative and responsive library service working with community partnerships… ”
