The regional theatre has recruited its first youth company, aiming to nurture new local talent. The company consists of 12 people from Leeds aged 18-25, who will meet weekly and produce “an eclectic range of work”.

Organisers of Beverley Folk Festival, which had scheduled over 80 acts and was due to be held in the middle of June, said the event has been cancelled because they lost their primary source of funding and “simply do not have the money to pay for either the infrastructure or performers”. People who bought tickets – which cost up to £130 – have been told they will not get a refund.

Dublin’s Project Arts Centre has been ordered to paint over a mural calling for the repeal of the 8th amendment to the Irish Constitution, which creates protection for a foetal right to life. Protestors have gathered outside the centre to challenge the decision, which the Charities Regulator says is because the mural is ‘political activity’ and in breach of the Charities Act 2009.
