StopGAP Dance Company

Four pieces of work from deaf and disabled artists have been commissioned by Shape, the disability arts organisation, to explore how deaf and disabled people can engage with the themes of the Cultural Olympiad. Two individual artists, Liz Bentley and Aaron Williamson, and two companies, Kazzum Theatre Company and StopGAP Dance Company (pictured), will each focus on a different aspect of the Cultural Olympiad. Bentley’s spoken word performances will look at how life sometimes really does knock you sideways, while Williamson’s film will look at perceptions of normality and disability. Kazzum’s street theatre will encourage young people to look beyond their first impressions, and StopGAP’s integrated dance will explore London and what it means to be British. An accompanying ‘My Games’ pack can be downloaded from Shape’s website, offering more information on each artist, and suggestions for activities.
