‘Living Spaces’, ‘Healing Spaces’, ‘Learning and playing spaces’ (pictured) and ‘Green spaces and unexpected places’ are the four priority areas identified by the Scottish Arts Council (SAC) as it takes a lead role in developing public art for the first time.

Its ‘Public Art Plan 2008–09’ outlines plans for development and support, although longer-term development from April 2009 will have to take place under the banner of Creative Scotland. All the priority areas link to wider policy areas such as regeneration, education, arts and health and ecology. SAC says that it sees its activity during the coming year “as critical in establishing a strong platform for this new body and how it can take forward and support public art in Scotland in the future”.
