Dr Farah Karim-Cooper, Head of Higher Education and Research at the organisation, said that commonly-used lighting and stage design techniques can put actors of colour at a disadvantage, and risk making them “merge into the background”. The comments have been criticised as “almost uneducated” by the Association of Lighting Designers, who said the Globe stage is simply illuminated to recreate daylight.
