The DCMS is seeking comments on a proposal to amend the Licensing Act 2003 to provide an easier process for venues to apply for minor variations to their licences. Currently, when licence holders wish to make small changes, they must apply for a full variation, involving advertising in a local newspaper or circular and copying the application to all the responsible authorities. The minor variations proposal aims to provide a low cost, simplified procedure for making changes.

To support its Learning Outside the Classroom Manifesto, the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) is undertaking a mapping and consultation exercise to identify training mechanisms in place for teachers and artists. The findings will be used to create comprehensive set of advice, guidance and training to encourage the delivery of high-quality learning outside the classroom. DCSF is also contemplating adopting a ‘quality mark’ for this kind of work and CapeUK, which has been contracted to conduct the consultation, is gathering views from the creative and cultural sector. The consultation closes on 21 January.
