The National Trust, which is facing £200m of losses after closing its shops, cafes, houses and gardens during the pandemic, is planning to cut the roles of top experts and "dial down" its cultural offer as part of a cost-saving exercise. An internal document leaked to The Times revealed its plans to hold fewer exhibitions and put collections into storage as the organistion prioritises preserving its houses and outdoor spaces. As well as a large number of hourly-paid seasonal workers, 1,200 of the 9,500 salaried staff have been warned of forthcoming redundancies, including 31 people with 'curator' in their job title.
