The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has launched a consultation on the European Capital for Culture Programme from 2020, as the current incarnation of the scheme ends in 2019. The Commission is proposing a number of changes including improved assessment criteria for potential cities and support for preparations. Both the Council of Ministers and the European Parliament will debate the renewal of the scheme and the DCMS is seeking views to inform the debate.
