Culture joins top table in Irish Government

A Department for Culture has been created by Ireland’s new Prime Minister (Taoiseach), Leo Varadkar, who appointed Heather Humphreys, the current Minister for Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht affairs, as the new department’s head. Varadkar promised there would be “new importance” for the promotion of arts, culture and heritage in Ireland, with a “budget to match”.
