Culture Investment Fund eases pain of cuts in Newcastle

Seventeen organisations will receive grants totalling £1.42m from a fund set up by the city council following its decision to axe regular funding to arts organisations. Among the biggest beneficiaries in this round are Seven Stories and Northern Stage, while Newcastle Theatre Royal was unsuccessful. The fund has fallen under criticism for failing to raise supplementary money through philanthropy.
