Festivals Edinburgh, the lobbying and advocacy group for Edinburghs 12 major festivals, has received a significant boost from stakeholders and funders, in support of its Edinburgh Festivals Marketing Strategy and Action Plan. City of Edinburgh Council, EventScotland, Scottish Enterprise Edinburgh and Lothian, and the Scottish Arts Council have said they will all contribute to funding the project, which is also supported by VisitScotland. In the first large project undertaken by Festivals Edinburgh, the strategy will help to define the relationship of Edinburghs major festivals with their audience, and examine effective approaches to joint working.
The plan will also see Festivals Edinburgh strengthen its core team, with the appointment of key staff and more day-to-day involvement of Director, Faith Liddell. Susan Watson, head of tourism at Scottish Enterprise Edinburgh and Lothian, said, "Edinburghs festivals attract more than 1.4 million visitors from the UK and overseas to the city and generates £184m for the Scottish economy a year. The new joint marketing strategy and action plan will be a key way in which the festivals can work together and ensure Edinburgh maintains its position as the number one festival destination in the world."
