People gatheroutside Farnham Maltings on a summer's day

Four projects involving 22 cultural organisations aim to strengthen leadership and career progression in the arts, new media and crafts sectors. Funding comes from the Cultural Leadership Programme (CLP) as part of its new development programme ‘Meeting the Challenge’. Activities throughout the 18-month projects will include placements, secondments, networking, coaching and mentoring to create new leadership opportunities. The CLP will provide a Lead Advisor “to probe, encourage and share the learning”. Awards include £25,100 to the Waverley Creative Alliance, led by Farnham Maltings (pictured), to develop West Surrey’s cultural sector. Other projects will be led by the PRS Foundation, the National Theatre and a partnership between the Whoopee Club and United Visual Artists. The CLP is inviting applications for the next round of Meeting the Challenge by 12 January 2009.
