Shu-Yi Chou's Ravel and Bolero

Shu-Yi Chou, a Taiwanese choreographer, has won Sadler’s Wells’ inaugural online global dance competition with his contemporary work set to Ravel’s ‘Bolero’. He and his company receive £2,000 and the chance to perform the piece as part of ‘Sadler’s Wells Sampled’ dance taster weekend in January 2010. The contest invited entries from across the world, with the public invited to vote for a winner from the shortlist of ten. Sadler’s Wells received submissions from 170 artists from 34 countries, and the shortlist spanned Korea, the USA, South Africa, Israel, the UK and Australia. The contest will run annually for the next four years, and in 2012 the winners will be invited to perform their work in London during the Olympic year. The winning entry can be watched online.
