An application for planning approval for a £28m redevelopment of the Everyman Theatre has been submitted to Liverpool City Council by the Liverpool Merseyside Theatres Trust. The funding plan includes £15m from Arts Council England and £2.5m from the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NRDA). Although ACE funds are already contracted, the project could be jeopardised by government cuts to RDAs as some of this funding is due for approval this summer. The balance of funding is being sought from a combination of public sector sources, fundraising and appeals.
If all goes according to plan, work will begin at the Everyman in the spring of 2011 and the theatre will open in 2013. Plans for the interior will revolve around a new 400-seat thrust stage auditorium and will include a youth and community theatre space, rehearsal space, workshops and offices, and a hub for writers.
