Crowd of people on a stage

The Charity Commission has completed a year-long assessment into the public benefit of the Royal Opera House (ROH), analysing the aims and output of the organisation in relation to its status as a registered charity. The ROH advances education in opera and ballet, promotes high standards of performance and encourages development of artists, and the Commission has concluded that it meets the requirements of the Charities Act 2006. Charitable income (through donations, legacies and similar) for the ROH was worth £17m for 2009. Net assets for the ROH, which receives more public funding from Arts Council England than any other organisation (at roughly £27m annually), are valued at £192m.
